Clinical Importance of MRI Lumbar Spine in Lower Backache

Aim: To examine the effectiveness and clinical significance of lumbar spine MRI in chronic lower-back ache patients its relevant radiculopathies. Study design: Cross-sectional descriptive study Place duration dtudy: Department Radiology, Sir Syed College Medical Sciences for Girls Karachi from 1stJune 2020 to 30thNovember 2020. Methodology: Ninety both males females, between ages 20-75 years with a history bilateral or unilateral lower limbs radiculopathy, back numbness pain were included. The vascular malformation, metastasis, tumour, infection, trauma excluded. Lumbar was performed by scanner. At following levels, scan taken: L5-S1, L4-L5, L3-L4, L2- L3. Results: mean age 44.64±15.67 years. Eighty percent showed osteophytes formation disc desiccation signs, 53.5% signs numbness, 36.7% has lower-limbs radiculopathies complaints, whereas 91.1% had shown diffuse bulge on spinal level L5-S1. In 100 patients, neural foramina compromised at L4-L5 which 98.9% there “nerve root compression” this level.
